This Privacy Policy explains how TeachCriticalThinking.com (“we”, “us”) processes personal data. It is written to comply with the EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR, Regulation 2016/679) and applicable Australian privacy law (Privacy Act 1988).

1. Controller

The data controller within the meaning of Art. 4(7) GDPR is Barbara R., operator of TeachCriticalThinking.com. You can reach the controller via the contact form.

2. Data we process

We aim to collect as little personal data as possible. Depending on how you use the site, the following data may be processed:

• Server log data automatically transmitted by your browser (IP address, user agent, referrer, date and time of access). Used only for security and technical operation.
• Contact form data (name, email address, chosen topic, message) when you choose to send us a message. The contact form opens your local email client; the message is then sent via your own email provider.
• Assessment data (your answers and the resulting profile) if you use the Feedback Compass assessment, stored under a random identifier so you can retrieve your result.
• Tool input (e.g. subject, audience, topic) you enter into our classroom tools, sent to our AI provider to generate the requested material. We do not store this input together with personal identifiers.

3. Legal bases (GDPR Art. 6)

• Art. 6(1)(b) — performance of the service you requested (generating materials, returning your assessment result).
• Art. 6(1)(f) — our legitimate interest in operating, securing and improving the website.
• Art. 6(1)(a) — your consent, where required (e.g. optional newsletters, where applicable).

4. Cookies and tracking

We use only technically necessary storage (e.g. to remember your session). We do not use advertising cookies or third-party tracking pixels. If we ever introduce analytics or marketing cookies, we will ask for your consent first.

5. Processors and third-party services

To operate the site we rely on a small number of service providers acting as processors under Art. 28 GDPR:

• Hosting and backend infrastructure — for serving the website and storing assessment results.
• AI providers — the text and image content generated by the classroom tools is produced by large-language-model providers. The prompts you enter are transmitted to these providers for the purpose of generating the requested output.

Where a provider is located outside the European Economic Area, we rely on appropriate safeguards (e.g. EU Standard Contractual Clauses) in accordance with Art. 44 ff. GDPR.

6. International transfers

The website is operated from Australia. By using the site, personal data necessary for its operation may be transferred to Australia or to other countries where our processors operate. Australia is recognised as offering protections comparable to those required by EU law for the limited categories of data we process.

7. Retention

Server logs are retained for a short period (typically up to 30 days) and then deleted or anonymised. Assessment results are retained as long as needed for you to access them, and can be deleted on request. Contact messages are kept for as long as needed to respond to your enquiry.

8. Your rights (GDPR Art. 15–22)

If the GDPR applies to you, you have the right to: access your personal data; rectify inaccurate data; erase your data; restrict or object to processing; data portability; and withdraw consent at any time without affecting the lawfulness of processing based on consent before its withdrawal.

9. Right to lodge a complaint

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority, in particular in the EU member state of your habitual residence, place of work, or place of the alleged infringement (Art. 77 GDPR).

10. Children

This website is intended for teachers and other adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. Classroom materials generated through our tools are designed to be used by teachers with their students, and we do not store student-identifiable information.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The current version is always available on this page, with the “Last updated” date at the top.
